Grand opening ceremony kicks off Hue Festival 2012

(Vietnam Travel) Thousands of domestic and foreign visitors attended a grand opening ceremony of Hue Festival 2012 at the Imperial City of Dai Noi, inside Hue Citadel on April 7.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung stressed that the tourism industry is not just an economic industry, but is part of a profound human cultural event. Hue Festival 2012 is one of the events for National Tourism Year this year in the Northern Central Coastal Area.

The National Tourism Year will be an opportunity to promote and showcase Vietnamese culture to the world and raise public awareness of the need to preserve ancient cultural heritage sites in the northern central coastal area.

The event is a chance for local and international art troupes to perform and highlight different cultures as well as take advantage of many business and investment opportunities in various fields, added Prime Minister Dung.

This year, the biennial Hue Festival in Hue City in Thua Thien-Hue Province from April 7-15 will have 36 art troupes from 28 countries from around the world participating in the event.
A number of cultural activities such as musical performances, folk games, puppetry, martial arts and dance performances will be held during the event.

Food for the palette from every corner of Vietnam

(Vietnam Travel)Ha Thanh Food Festival is one of the main activities that has come along with the 1000 year anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi.
The opening ceremony of the festival attracted so many visitors that traffic was severely jammed along Lac Long Quan Street. People hurried, pushed and shoved to get to the food festival.
A very large parking area was arranged to watch vehicles for visitors but it could not meet the demand. Many people had their vehicles kept at private parking areas. However, these visitors were over-charged with prices as high as VND50,000 ($2.6) per vehicle which is much higher than normal price.
Over-crowding left many visitors disappointed. There was not much space to enjoy the exciting atmosphere of the event. Many felt exhausted after being kept waiting to buy coupons or to queue at food booths.
The crowded atmosphere made it quite difficult for visitors to soak in the cultural and artistic value of the event.
However, in the coming days, the situation should be much improved so visitors can enjoy the unique food culture of the North, Central and South of Vietnam.
At the parking areas, they won’t have to queue up too long tor worry about being overcharged.
